Reigning Eredivisie champions, PSV delivered a statement of intent on Sunday, dismantling Feyenoord 3-0 at the Philips Stadion to stretch their lead at the top of the table to a commanding 17 points.
Both sides entered the weekend recovering from European setbacks—PSV narrowly losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich, while Feyenoord fell by the same scoreline to Real Betis.
PSV boss Peter Bosz retained Curaçao defender Armando Obispo in his starting lineup, while Esmir Bajraktarevic filled in on the right wing in Dennis Man’s absence. Feyenoord, under Robin van Persie, featured six changes from their midweek fixture.
Notable inclusions were Ayase Ueda, Oussama Targhalline, Hwang In-Beom, and defender Jeremiah St. Juste, making his first appearance since returning to the club after nearly seven years.
Blistering Starting
The match quickly turned disastrous for Feyenoord. Inside ten minutes, Obispo powered home a header from a Joey Veerman free-kick, with the Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther caught off guard, marking Veerman’s 11th assist of the season.
PSV barely paused before doubling their advantage in the 13th minute. Mauro Junior’s cross found Guus Til, who tapped the ball into an empty net after Wellenreuther misjudged the trajectory. Three minutes later, PSV struck again.
A loose ball was ignored by multiple Feyenoord players, allowing Paul Wanner to set up Ismael Saibari, who made no mistake in slotting home the third. By the 18th minute, the match was effectively over.
Despite chants from PSV supporters recalling the club’s historic 10-0 rout of Feyenoord in 2010, the game settled into a quieter rhythm after Saibari’s goal. Feyenoord’s Ayase Ueda was denied by a last-ditch defensive effort from Mauro Junior, while Saibari and Til forced saves from Wellenreuther as the first half closed.
Second Half Control
With their commanding lead, PSV eased off in the second half, offering only sporadic excitement, most notably from Couhaib Driouech and Guus Til with aerial attempts.
A sold-out Philips Stadion roared in approval, celebrating their team with chants of “Stand up for the champions.”
Feyenoord’s first notable chance came in the 80th minute when Goncalo Borges mishit a corner over Matej Kovar’s goal. The Portuguese winger would later see his evening cut short after a direct red card in the 84th minute.
PSV maintained control throughout, comfortably seeing out the 3-0 victory in what was arguably their most important match of the season so far.
With the win, PSV now sit 17 points clear atop the Eredivisie, reinforcing their status as the team to beat this season.
