Nigeria forward, Tolu Arokodare, came off the bench to score as Ajax fought back to draw 2-2 with Excelsior in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday.
Arokodare was introduced in the 62nd minute and quickly gave Ajax a greater attacking threat.
He initially came close with a header that went wide before finding the equaliser two minutes later.
The towering striker converted Oscar Gloukh’s pass from close range in the 64th minute, restoring parity after Excelsior had taken the lead.
Arokodare continued to cause problems for the Excelsior defence, particularly from crosses, as Ajax pushed for a winning goal.
He came close to completing the comeback in the 87th minute when his header from a corner struck the left post.
The Nigerian forward finished the game with nine attempts, 12 touches inside the box and five aerial duels won, underlining his impact after coming on.
Despite Ajax’s late pressure, neither side could find a decisive goal as the points were shared.
Ajax will next host NEC Nijmegen, while Excelsior are scheduled to welcome Groningen.
