Eredivisie: Cathline brace hands Utrecht 2-1 win over Willem II

French forward Yoann Cathline scored twice as FC Utrecht defeated Willem II 3-1 in the Eredivisie on Sunday, leaving the visitors without a win after eight league matches.

Utrecht dominated the opening half at De Galgenwaard, creating attacking opportunities through Cathline and Arthur Zagré.

However, Willem II defended resolutely to keep the score goalless at the break.

The hosts eventually took the lead shortly after the restart when Cathline cut inside before firing into the bottom-right corner.

Willem II responded through Feyenoord loanee Jaden Slory, who restored parity after an hour with a low finish into the bottom-left corner.

Utrecht suffered a setback when Zagré was forced off with an injury, but Cathline stepped up again with 15 minutes remaining, unleashing a powerful strike into the top-left corner to restore the hosts’ advantage.

Willem II pushed forward in search of another equaliser, with Devin Haen attempting to score with a header, but his effort was blocked by a defender.

Utrecht eventually sealed the victory through substitute Ángel Alarcón, whose goal helped the hosts secure their second league win of the campaign.
