Eredivisie: Feyenoord edge Telstar in seven-goal thriller

Feyenoord maintained their position at the top of the Eredivisie table after surviving a seven-goal thriller to defeat Telstar 4-3 on Saturday.

Gaoussou Diarra gave Feyenoord a dream start by scoring from close range in the opening minute before Nacho Ferri equalised for Telstar with a header from a corner in the 21st minute.

Tyrone Owusu put the hosts ahead in the 30th minute with a powerful long-range effort, but Sem Steijn restored Feyenoord’s advantage just two minutes later.

Telstar continued to threaten, with Patrick Brouwer finding the net in the 37th minute to keep the hosts within striking distance as both sides produced an entertaining first half.

Steijn struck again in the 57th minute, converting a penalty after a handball to give Feyenoord some breathing space.

However, Telstar refused to surrender, and Noach Shenkman reduced the deficit in the 69th minute with a header to set up a tense finish.

Feyenoord held on to secure all three points, despite the hosts’ efforts to find another equaliser.

The visitors finished with 11 shots on target from 22 attempts, compared with Telstar’s nine on target from 23 efforts, underlining their greater accuracy in front of goal.
