Eredivisie: Mijnans bags hattrick as PSV thrash Sparta Rotterdam 4-1

Netherlands midfielder, Sven Mijnans, scored a hat-trick as PSV Eindhoven defeated his former club Sparta Rotterdam 4-1 in the Eredivisie on Sunday.

PSV fell behind in the 15th minute after goalkeeper Matej Kovar made a costly error outside his penalty area.

Sparta capitalised on the mistake, with Milan Zonneveld finishing into an empty net to give the visitors the lead.

The hosts responded eight minutes later when Mijnans headed in Esmir Bajraktarevic’s cross to restore parity.

PSV then completed the turnaround shortly before half-time as Kodai Sano’s effort from about 20 metres took a deflection off goalkeeper Michael Brouwer before finding the net.

Sparta came out strongly after the break and created opportunities to level the score.

Kovar redeemed himself by denying Zonneveld, while Mitchell van Bergen narrowly missed with another attempt.

PSV manager Peter Bosz introduced Ruben van Bommel, Ricardo Pepi and Ivan Perisic as he sought to strengthen his side, while former PSV player Isaac Babadi was also brought on for Sparta.

Mijnans struck again in the 74th minute after Brouwer saved Paul Wanner’s effort, with the midfielder reacting quickest to the rebound to make it 3-1.

The 25-year-old completed his hat-trick two minutes from full-time with a well-placed effort from outside the box, sealing a convincing victory that moved PSV to the top of the Eredivisie table.
