Super Falcons forward, Uchenna Kanu, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparations for their second-leg encounter against Comoros, saying the team is determined to secure another convincing victory and move closer to qualifying for the Olympic Games.
Nigeria go into the return fixture with a 2-0 advantage following their first-leg victory at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Despite the comfortable lead, Kanu insists that the Super Falcons will not settle for merely protecting their advantage, as they aim to improve their attacking output and strengthen their chances of progressing.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the forward expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations and confidence in the quality of players available.
“I think for me, this is huge, and for the rest of my teammates. I think we have been preparing well, and I think we have the squad. We want to win well and score more goals,” Kanu stated.
The forward’s remarks underline Nigeria’s intention to maintain an attacking approach rather than become overly defensive because of their first-leg advantage.
Kanu believes the team has the quality to create more chances and convert them into goals as they seek to finish the tie convincingly.
Beyond the immediate task against Comoros, the Super Falcons are also motivated by the prospect of securing a place at the Olympic Games.
Kanu identified Olympic qualification as a major ambition for the team, highlighting the importance of the ongoing campaign to the players.
“The Olympics, generally, with the Super Falcons, to qualify for the Olympics is what we are looking forward to,” she explained.
The forward’s comments reflect the squad’s determination to achieve its qualification target and earn the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the global sporting event.
With a two-goal advantage from the first leg, the Super Falcons are in a favourable position heading into the return fixture.
However, Kanu’s desire for more goals suggests the team will seek to build on its advantage rather than simply defend it.
A strong performance against Comoros would boost Nigeria’s hopes of advancing in the qualification campaign as they continue their pursuit of an Olympic appearance.
