Olympic qualifier: Don’t look down on Comoros, Eguavoen warns Super Falcons

Super Falcons interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has urged his players not to underestimate Comoros as Nigeria begin their campaign in the second qualifying round for the 2028 Olympic Games.

The 10-time African champions will take on Comoros in the first leg of the encounter at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne on Friday (today).

The return leg is scheduled to hold at the same venue next Tuesday, with Nigeria hoping to secure a place in the next round of the qualifying competition.

Comoros head into the tie after an impressive performance in the previous round, where they thrashed Sudan 30-0 on aggregate to advance to the second round.

Despite Nigeria’s superior pedigree and the quality of players at their disposal, Eguavoen has stressed the need for his side to approach the encounter with caution.

The former Super Eagles coach expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome their opponents but insisted that the players must remain focused and adhere to their game plan.

“I believe no team can come here and survive. But we are not looking down on anyone. We’re not looking down on our opponents, really, with all respect. We stick to our game plan and just make sure we deliver,” Eguavoen told reporters.
