Alozie deactivates Instagram account after Super Falcons’ World Cup miss

Super Falcons defender, Michele Alozie, has deactivated her Instagram account following intense criticism from Nigerian football fans after the team failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria’s hopes of securing a place at the tournament were dashed after the Falcons suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the decisive play-off fixture.

The setback came after the team had already endured a disappointing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals following a 1-0 loss to Cameroon.

Alozie, who has been a regular member of the national team, was among the players targeted by supporters amid the backlash that followed the Falcons’ poor run.

Her Instagram account has since been deactivated as criticism of the team intensified.

The Houston Dash defender had previously attracted attention for her active presence on social media, including sharing and participating in trending content with her teammates.

The latest criticism, however, followed Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.

The disappointing campaign has also increased calls for the dismissal of head coach Justine Madugu, while supporters have demanded significant changes within the Nigeria Football Federation.

The development means the Super Falcons, Super Eagles and Flying Eagles have all failed to qualify for their respective World Cups for the first time in Nigerian football history.
