FA rejects Arsenal red-card appeal, upholds Dowman’s three-match ban

The Football Association has rejected Arsenal’s appeal against the red card issued to teenage midfielder Max Dowman, upholding his three-match suspension.

Arsenal announced the decision on its website on Thursday, quoting the FA as confirming that an independent Regulatory Commission had dismissed the club’s arguments that the player was wrongfully sent off and that his punishment was excessive.

Dowman received the red card during Arsenal’s EFL Cup encounter against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday, October 27.

Following the dismissal, the club challenged both the decision to send him off and the resulting suspension.

In a statement, the FA said, “An independent Regulatory Commission has dismissed claims of both wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment for Max Dowman.

“The Arsenal player was sent off during their EFL Cup game against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday 27 October and will be suspended for three matches.”

The commission is expected to publish its written reasons for rejecting Arsenal’s appeal at a later date, according to the FA.

The ruling means Dowman will miss Arsenal’s next three domestic fixtures against Liverpool, Hull City and Newcastle United.
