The Super Falcons have stepped up preparations for their 2028 Olympic qualifying campaign, with nine players arriving at their camp in Ikenne, Ogun State, ahead of their first-leg clash with Comoros on Friday.
Interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, invited 28 players for the crucial assignment as Nigeria begins its bid to secure a place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
The early arrivals have provided Eguavoen with an initial group to work with as the coaching crew intensifies preparations for the two-legged encounter.
Nigeria will host Comoros in the opening leg on October 9 before the return fixture four days later.
The Olympic qualifiers offer the Falcons an opportunity to respond after their disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria’s struggles at the tournament also contributed to the country missing out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in the history of the women’s national team.
Several established players are expected to join the squad during the week, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, forward Asisat Oshoala, defender Ashleigh Plumptre and Monday Gift.
Their arrival will provide Eguavoen with additional experience as he seeks to blend the senior players with those already in camp and build a squad capable of overcoming Comoros.
With the two legs scheduled just four days apart, Nigeria will be expected to make home advantage count in the opening fixture and secure a result that will put them in a strong position before the return leg.
