Eredivisie: Breda, Rotterdam play goaless draw

NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam played out a tense but ultimately goalless draw on Sunday afternoon at the Rat Verlegh Stadium.

After ninety minutes, the scoreboard still read 0-0, leaving both teams with mixed feelings.

For relegation-threatened NAC, the home fixture was pivotal, yet the first half offered little to suggest a high-stakes contest.

Both sides struggled to find rhythm, but it was the hosts who looked most lacking.

Sparta, while not dazzling either, managed to create sporadic threats to Daniel Bielica’s goal. Tobias Lauritsen and Mitchell van Bergen, twice—tested the keeper, but nothing truly troubled the NAC defense in a first half dominated by mediocrity.

NAC fans, frustrated with striker Amine Salama, grew vocal in their discontent. Calls for his substitution echoed across the stands: “We want to see Reulen!”

The second half saw slightly more action. Sparta’s Van Bergen had a shooting opportunity, while Mohamed Nassoh forced a full-stretch save from Joël Drommel in the 65th minute.

NAC nearly caught Sparta off guard from a corner, but the breakthrough never came. Shunsuke Mito, meanwhile, couldn’t convert a midfield mistake into a goal, his tight angle frustrating the Japanese striker’s attempt.

Despite the growing tension in the closing stages, neither side managed a clear-cut chance. André Ayew came closest for NAC with a dangerous header, but Sparta held firm, leaving the game goalless.

With the draw, NAC remain in seventeenth place under Carl Hoefkens, three points adrift of sixteenth-placed Excelsior.

Sparta sit comfortably in eighth with 42 points, keeping their hopes alive for European play-off qualification.
