Bayer Leverkusen ran rampant at the BayArena on Saturday, cruising to a dominant 6-0 victory over 1. FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
The visitors got off to a dream start, taking the lead inside just two minutes. Ernest Poku surged forward before threading a precise pass to Patrik Schick, who made no mistake, slotting the ball past Heidenheim goalkeeper Diant Ramaj.
The lead doubled in the 16th minute when Jonas Hofmann rose unmarked to head home Edmond Tapsoba’s pinpoint cross.
Leverkusen struck again six minutes later, capitalizing on a defensive blunder as Ramaj collided with Patrick Mainka, leaving the ball ripe for Schick to tap in his second goal of the match.
Leverkusen’s momentum showed no signs of slowing. In the 27th minute, Poku scored his second after connecting with a teasing cross from Arthur, making it 4-0.
Just before halftime, Ibrahim Maza added another, expertly finishing Aleix Garcia’s delivery to send Bayer 04 into the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.
The second half saw Maza strike again in the 53rd minute, curling the ball into the net with the outside of his boot.
Heidenheim struggled to respond, only managing their first attempt in the 69th minute when Arijon Ibrahimovic’s effort was blocked heroically by Robert Andrich.
In the end, Leverkusen ran out 6-0 winners, cementing their spot in fourth place while Heidenheim remained anchored at the bottom of the table.
