Bundesliga: Hamburg beat Stuttgart 1-0

Hamburger SV secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday, thanks to Miro Muheim’s late strike at the Volksparkstadion.

The Swiss defender scored in the 88th minute to hand Hamburg all three points and extend the club’s winning streak to three consecutive Bundesliga matches for the first time since 2011.

Stuttgart started the encounter strongly, enjoying more possession and creating several opportunities in the opening half.

However, the visitors failed to convert their chances into goals.

Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic both missed promising headed opportunities in the opening 15 minutes, while Undav came close again in the 38th minute when his effort struck the post.

Hamburg offered limited attacking threats before the break, with Fabio Vieira and set-piece situations providing their main opportunities to trouble the Stuttgart defence.

The hosts returned from the interval with greater attacking intent, and Yussuf Poulsen came close to breaking the deadlock.

The Danish forward first headed narrowly wide before striking the crossbar with a powerful effort between the 48th and 53rd minutes.

Stuttgart also threatened after the restart, but Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes produced important interventions to keep his side in the contest.

With the match seemingly heading towards a goalless draw, Muheim delivered the decisive moment two minutes before the end of normal time.

Following an impressive run down the right by Zakaria El Ouahdi, Muheim found space outside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot from approximately 25 metres that flew into the net.

The late goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters as Hamburg claimed another important victory.
