Bundesliga: Díaz bags hattrick as Bayern humiliate Leipzig 6-1

Bayern Munich delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, thrashing RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena to reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga, with Luis Díaz scoring a hat-trick.

Vincent Kompany’s side dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, overwhelming Leipzig with their attacking quality to secure a convincing victory and capitalise on Borussia Dortmund’s goalless draw against Union Berlin earlier in the day.

Díaz opened the scoring in the 12th minute after racing onto a superb pass from Joshua Kimmich.

The Colombian forward kept his composure before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.

Bayern doubled their advantage in the 26th minute when Díaz turned provider, setting up Aleksandar Pavlovic to finish with his left foot at the near post.

Michael Olise extended the hosts’ lead eight minutes later, combining with Harry Kane before guiding his effort into the bottom-right corner to make it 3-0.

Leipzig struggled to contain Bayern before the break and were fortunate not to concede more goals, with Vandevoordt making several important saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming even more damaging.

The visitors’ hopes of a comeback suffered another blow just two minutes into the second half.

Kane played Díaz through on the left, allowing the Colombian to beat his marker before firing into the far corner for his second goal of the evening.

Kane joined the scoresheet in the 53rd minute, finishing from close range after an Archie Brown cross, with Díaz also involved in the build-up.

Bayern continued to threaten despite making several substitutions, and Díaz completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute.

The forward found the net from outside the penalty area after a short corner routine involving Olise.

Olise later struck the crossbar as Bayern searched for another goal, but Leipzig managed to avoid further damage.

The visitors eventually found the net in the second minute of stoppage time through Andrija Maksimovic, whose powerful effort went in off the underside of the crossbar to deny Bayern a clean sheet.

The late goal did little to diminish Bayern’s impressive display, as they secured a 6-1 victory to move top of the Bundesliga standings.

Bayern took advantage of Dortmund’s 0-0 draw against Union Berlin to strengthen their position at the summit, while Leipzig remained seventh in the table.
