President Bola Tinubu hosted Nigeria’s victorious Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa on Monday, where he revealed he wanted to avoid watching the tense WAFCON final to protect his health.

“I didn’t want to watch the WAFCON final because I didn’t want to have high blood pressure,” the President confessed during the reception.

The senior women’s national team arrived at the Villa at exactly 4:36pm and proceeded directly to the President’s office, where they were celebrated for their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against Morocco that secured Nigeria’s record-extending tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

In recognition of their achievement, President Tinubu: Conferred on each Super Falcons player the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger; Announced the allocation of a three-bedroom apartment to each team member; Gifted the squad the naira-equivalent of $100,000.

The presidential reception came after Nigeria’s thrilling victory over host nation Morocco in Saturday’s final, where the Falcons overcame a deficit to maintain their dominance as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
