Reigning African champions, the Super Falcons, have officially received the rewards pledged by the Federal Government following their successful Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, The Punch reports.
The presentation took place in Rabat, Morocco, on Tuesday, just hours before Nigeria kicked off their Group C campaign against Malawi at the 2026 WAFCON.
National Sports Commission Chairman, Shehu Dikko, handed over the rewards in the presence of Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, with Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade receiving the items on behalf of the squad.
Images shared by the Nigeria Football Federation on its official X account showed the players receiving parcels believed to contain the title documents for the three-bedroom houses promised by the Federal Government, alongside their national honours certificates.
“NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and NFF GS Mohammed Sanusi on Tuesday presented the 2025 WAFCON triumph rewards promised by the FGN to the Super Falcons in Rabat, Morocco,” the NFF wrote.
Nigeria earned the rewards after clinching a record 10th WAFCON title, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 competition, which was staged last year.
In recognition of the achievement, President Bola Tinubu announced a reward package that included $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for every member of the technical and backroom staff, a three-bedroom house for each team member and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.
Although the cash payments were processed and credited to the beneficiaries after the necessary administrative procedures, the presentation of the housing documents and national honours certificates was postponed until the team’s return to Morocco for the current tournament.
Explaining the decision before travelling to Morocco, Dikko said the timing was deliberate to ensure the entire squad received the rewards together ahead of their title defence.
“I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts,” Dikko said.
“We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON.”
Dikko also reiterated that all financial rewards had already been paid into the players’ respective bank accounts once the required administrative processes were completed.
The presentation comes as the Super Falcons begin the defence of their African title in Morocco, where they are aiming to secure a record-extending 11th WAFCON crown. After their opening fixture against tournament debutants Malawi, Nigeria will take on Zambia before concluding the group stage against Egypt.
