Police arrest suspected robber concealing pistol in bread

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, for allegedly attempting to conceal a pistol inside a loaf of bread.

The arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout in Asaba on November 6, 2025.

The command’s Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Saturday that the suspect’s unusual behavior prompted officers of the Rapid Response Squad to conduct a thorough search.

“In the course of the search, a fabricated Beretta pistol was discovered carefully concealed inside a loaf of bread. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody,” Edafe said.

The recovered weapon has been secured as evidence, and investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s possible involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping across Asaba and surrounding communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the operatives for their vigilance.

“This discovery is a testament to the command’s sustained intelligence-driven operations. We remain committed to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting criminals regardless of their tactics,” Olufemi said, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information.

The police command recently intercepted a Hiace bus loaded with controlled substances, including codeine and tramadol, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb crime in the state.
