The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged armed robbery attack in Gadau community, during which a couple was tied up and valuables estimated at about ₦4 million were stolen.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying the arrests followed an intelligence-led investigation launched after the incident was reported to the police.
According to the statement, a 28-year-old resident of Gadau Town reported at the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters on July 3 that five armed hoodlums invaded his residence in the early hours of June 8.
“The complainant reported that on June 8, 2026, at about 3:00 a.m., five unknown hoodlums armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons broke into his residence,” Abubakar said.
Police said the attackers allegedly forced open the couple’s bedroom door, threatened them with machetes, tied them up, and made away with several valuables.
“The suspects intimidated the complainant and his wife with machetes, tied them up, and stole one Jincheng motorcycle, five Android mobile phones, 10 sets of wrappers, ₦1 million in cash, one cap, and three wristwatches, with the total value of the stolen property estimated at ₦4 million,” the statement added.
Abubakar said detectives immediately visited the scene and commenced a coordinated investigation, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects identified as Salisu Umar, 20, of Gadau, and Sadiq Shehu, 20, from Azare in Katagum Local Government Area.
According to the police, both suspects underwent preliminary investigation, while an identification parade further strengthened the case.
“During the identification parade, the complainant’s wife identified Sadiq Shehu as one of the men who entered her room and compelled her to open the main gate for the other members of the gang,” Abubakar stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for the successful operation and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“The Commissioner has assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure that everyone found culpable is brought to justice,” the statement said.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.
