Police arrest two wanted armed robbery suspects in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who had been on its wanted list since last year, following a recent attack in Mubi.

The suspects, identified as Abdulhamid Salihu, also known as “Baban Anty,” and Bello Yahaya, popularly called “Baban Yambiyu,” were arrested by operatives of Operation Sanity after an intelligence-led operation.

Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, noting that the suspects were tracked after a robbery incident reported on June 10, 2026, in Unguwar Kara, Mubi.

“The suspects, along with two others now at large, allegedly attacked one Mustapha Ali in the early hours of June 10, inflicted injuries on him, and dispossessed him of cash and other valuables,” Nguroje said.

He added that sustained surveillance and coordinated operations between security units in Mubi North and Mubi South led to the arrest of the suspects.

According to the police, several items were recovered during the operation, including stolen mobile phones, jewellery, handbags, travelling bags, and weapons allegedly used in the robbery.

“The suspects were arrested following sustained intelligence-driven efforts by operatives of Operation Sanity,” the statement added.

The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing accomplices and recover additional stolen items.
