A police officer has been shot dead and a Chinese national abducted after armed men attacked a farm facility in Ogunmakin, Ibadan axis of Oyo State.
The incident occurred around 1pm on Thursday at Aqua Triton Company, where the assailants reportedly stormed the premises in a coordinated operation.
Sources said the attackers also seized a company director, identified as Renjith Pillai, 42, who was inspecting crops on the farm at the time of the напад.
Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the officer lost his life while confronting the gunmen.
“I can confirm that unknown gunmen invaded Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin in a commando-style operation. One police officer died while trying to repel the attack, and a Chinese expatriate was abducted,” he said.
Olayinka added that security operatives had launched a manhunt for the suspects.
“Immediately the case was reported, the Commissioner of Police directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to mobilise the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units to the area. A bush-combing operation is ongoing to rescue the victim and arrest those responsible,” he stated.
The police said investigations have commenced, while efforts continue to track the attackers and secure the safe release of the abducted expatriate.
