JUST IN: Gunmen allegedly attack Peter Obi, Odigie-Oyegun, ADC leaders in Edo

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi, ex-national chairman of the APC John Odigie-Oyegun, and several leaders of the African Democratic Congress were reportedly attacked by armed men in Edo State on Tuesday.

According to The PUNCH, the incident was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by Dr Yunusa Tanko, former spokesman of Obi’s presidential campaign and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide.

Tanko said the attack occurred shortly after political activities marking the formal defection of Olumide Akpata to the ADC in Benin City.

“Peter Obi and the leadership of the ADC came under attack in Benin,” Tanko said.

“Armed individuals trailed the delegation from the ADC secretariat to the residence of Chief Odigie-Oyegun, where they opened fire at the gate and vandalised vehicles.”

He described the incident as a serious threat to the lives of those present.

“Several cars were damaged and the gate was riddled with bullets in what appeared to be an assassination attempt. This is deeply troubling and raises concerns about the safety of political actors,” he added.
