Eredivisie: PSV thrash PEC Zwolle 4-0

Defending Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven made light work of PEC Zwolle, cruising to a commanding 4-0 victory to record their second consecutive league win.

After being held to a 1-1 draw by Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, manager Peter Bosz handed Sergiño Dest his first start since the September 21st derby against Ajax.

With no recognized striker available, Guus Til once again led the line, supported on the flanks by Couhaib Driouech and Romanian winger Dennis Man.

The early stages were quiet, but PSV soon found their rhythm. In-form midfielder Ismael Saibari broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute with his fourth goal in as many matches.

Just moments later, Til thought he had doubled the advantage, only for VAR to rule his effort out for offside.

That setback didn’t slow the champions down. Man, who had set up the opening goal, got on the scoresheet himself five minutes before halftime, calmly tucking home his first goal for the club to give PSV a comfortable 2-0 cushion at the interval.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts when Ajax loanee Tristan Gooijer was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Joey Veerman early in the second half.

Veerman responded in the best possible way, finishing neatly from Man’s assist just four minutes later to make it 3-0.

With PEC Zwolle offering little resistance, they failed to muster a single shot after the break, PSV closed out the game in style. Centre-back Ryan Flamingo rose highest to meet Esmir Bajraktarević’s late cross, heading home in stoppage time to seal an emphatic 4-0 triumph.

The result keeps PSV second in the Eredivisie standings, just behind unbeaten leaders Feyenoord, as they head into the international break.

The Eindhoven side will return to action on October 18th when they welcome Go Ahead Eagles to the Philips Stadion.

For PEC Zwolle, their struggles continue — the defeat extends their winless run to five league matches. They’ll look to bounce back when they travel to NAC Breda on October 18th.
