Elon Musk’s estranged ‘daughter’ Vivian Wilson ends interview over father question

Elon Musk’s estranged ‘daughter’, Vivian Wilson, has drawn public attention after abruptly ending a red carpet interview when a question about her father, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, was raised during an event in Spain

The 22-year-old model and activist was speaking to journalists at a Desigual Vintage event in Ibiza on Tuesday when the exchange took an unexpected turn toward her family background.

In footage shared widely online, a reporter asked Wilson, “Your father the best, no?” Appearing confused, she responded, “My what? Sorry?” The reporter repeated the question, saying, “The best, your father.”

After a short pause, Wilson replied, “OK,” before ending the interview and walking away from the camera area.

The brief moment has been interpreted by many observers as another public indication of the strained relationship between Wilson and Musk.

Wilson, who came out as transgender in 2020, legally changed her name and gender in 2022.

As part of that process, she also dropped the Musk surname and stated in court filings that she no longer wished to be related to her biological father “in any way, shape or form.”

Over the years, both she and Musk have commented publicly on the breakdown of their relationship, consistently underscoring the emotional distance between them.

In a 2024 interview with NBC News, Wilson said Musk “wasn’t there” during much of her upbringing and alleged she faced criticism for expressing femininity and queerness as a child.

She later reinforced her position on Threads, writing that she had disowned Musk, rather than the other way around.

Musk has also spoken about the relationship in interviews with biographer Walter Isaacson and psychologist Jordan Peterson, discussing both her transition and their estrangement.

Wilson is one of Musk’s older children. She and her twin brother, Griffin, were born in California in 2004 during Musk’s marriage to author Justine Wilson.

In a widely discussed 2024 interview, Musk referred to Wilson by her former name and claimed he had been misled into signing documents connected to her gender transition, comments that sparked backlash and renewed debate around the family dispute.

More recently, Wilson reflected on her upbringing as the child of a globally wealthy figure. In an April interview with Cosmopolitan, she described her childhood as “isolating” and “strange,” pointing to the emotional distance she felt despite immense privilege.

Elon Musk is the father of 14 children with multiple partners, including musician Grimes, Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, and influencer Ashley St. Clair.
