EPL: Newcastle beat Crystal Palace 2-0

Newcastle United moved up to seventh in the Premier League table after securing a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, with second-half goals from William Osula and Harvey Barnes handing the hosts another defeat.

Crystal Palace started brightly at Selhurst Park, creating early opportunities through Jean-Philippe Mateta and Axel Disasi during a goalmouth scramble.

However, Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek and his defenders held firm to prevent the hosts from taking the lead.

The visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances in the opening half, while Palace failed to capitalise on their promising start as both teams went into the break level.

Newcastle returned from the interval with greater intensity and broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half.

Jacob Murphy delivered an inviting cross from the right, which Osula converted with a close-range volley in the 47th minute.

The visitors thought they had extended their advantage shortly afterwards when Joe Willock curled the ball into the bottom corner, but the goal was ruled out following a video assistant referee review.

Newcastle eventually doubled their lead in the 58th minute after Amar Dedic supplied a low pass from the right into the penalty area.

Barnes met the delivery and fired the ball into the net to put the visitors firmly in control.

Crystal Palace continued to search for a response and forced Hornicek into several saves as the game progressed.

However, Newcastle maintained their advantage until the final whistle to claim all three points.

The victory lifted Newcastle to seventh place in the standings, while Palace’s latest setback increased the pressure on manager Pierre Sage.
