Alexander Isak scored the decisive goal as Liverpool came from behind to defeat nine-man Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Brentford took the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter before Victor Munoz equalised for Liverpool in the second half.
Isak then completed the comeback, securing all three points for Andoni Iraola’s side at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The hosts suffered their first setback in stoppage time of the opening half when Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off for violent conduct following a VAR review.
Brentford’s numerical disadvantage proved costly as Liverpool increased the pressure after the break.
Liverpool had threatened early, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister both firing efforts over the crossbar.
Alexander Isak also missed an opportunity with a header, while Michael Kayode came close for Brentford with a shot that deflected narrowly wide.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock when Lewis-Potter headed home a cross from Thiago.
The goal came shortly after a penalty awarded to Liverpool was overturned following a VAR review.
Yarmoliuk was subsequently dismissed after an altercation with Jeremy Jacquet before a corner.
Liverpool intensified their attack after the interval, with Mac Allister forcing goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher into a save.
Munoz eventually restored parity after breaking down the right flank and cutting inside to fire a low shot into the bottom corner.
Isak put Liverpool ahead with 20 minutes remaining, controlling a headed pass from Bradley Barcola before firing past Kelleher from a tight angle.
The goal completed the turnaround and put the visitors in control of the contest.
Liverpool pushed for a third, but Barcola’s curling effort struck the crossbar.
Brentford’s afternoon ended on another sour note when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card for bringing down Rio Ngumoha outside the penalty area in added time, leaving the hosts with nine players as Liverpool held on for victory.
