EPL: Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0 for first EPL win

Bournemouth secured their first Premier League victory of the season on Sunday, defeating 10-man Sunderland 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium, with Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scoring for the hosts.

Tavernier opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Evanilson capitalised on defensive errors by Kevin Danso and Omar Alderete.

The Brazilian forward delivered a cross into the box, allowing Tavernier to head home from close range.

Sunderland’s task became more difficult in the 17th minute when Danso received a straight red card for bringing down Evanilson, who was advancing towards goal after the defender failed to control a bouncing ball.

Despite playing with 10 men, Sunderland managed to prevent Bournemouth from extending their advantage before the break.

However, the hosts doubled their lead just three minutes into the second half.

Evanilson took advantage of a misplaced back pass from Alderete, rounded Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs and calmly rolled the ball into an unguarded net to make it 2-0.

Bournemouth continued to create opportunities to increase their lead, with Evanilson and Rayan threatening the visitors’ defence.

Roefs produced several saves to keep Sunderland in contention, while the hosts failed to convert further chances.

The victory lifted Bournemouth to 15th place in the Premier League table, providing a much-needed boost for manager Marco Rose, who recorded his first league win in charge.

Sunderland, meanwhile, suffered their fourth consecutive league defeat and dropped to 19th position.

Sunderland will look to respond when they face Lech Poznan in the Europa League on Thursday.
