Bayern Munich stormed back from a shocking two-goal deficit to demolish Freiburg 6-2 in the Bundesliga, with Michael Olise delivering a sensational performance that included two goals and three assists.
The champions preserved their unbeaten league run and stayed firmly atop the title race.
Freiburg stunned the Allianz Arena early, capitalising on Bayern’s sluggish defending at set pieces. Yuito Suzuki finished off a sharp corner routine in the 12th minute, and just five minutes later, Johan Manzambi ghosted in at the far post to head past Manuel Neuer for a 2-0 advantage.
But Bayern, still stung by their 2-2 draw at Union Berlin before the international break, hit back almost instantly. Lennart Karl pulled one back in the 21st minute after being picked out by Olise.
The Frenchman then struck a thunderous equaliser in first-half stoppage time to drag the hosts level.
The champions completed the turnaround 10 minutes into the second half when Olise’s corner found Dayot Upamecano, who volleyed home. Harry Kane extended the lead soon after with his 14th Bundesliga goal of the campaign.
Olise wasn’t done. A brilliant solo run and pass set up Nicolas Jackson for Bayern’s fifth, before he rounded off his masterclass by curling a superb strike into the top corner to seal the emphatic victory.
