Trabzonspor open talks to sign Salah after Liverpool exit

Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor have opened negotiations to sign former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on a free transfer after the Egyptian’s departure from Anfield.

The 34-year-old, who left Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season, is now in discussions with the Turkish outfit over a potential move.

Trabzonspor confirmed the development in an official statement, revealing that Salah is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday before continuing to the club’s base in Trabzon.

“The player is planned to reach Trabzon in the evening of the same day,” the club said.

“The time and other details regarding the welcome program in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club’s official communication channels during the day.”

Known as the Black Sea Storm, Trabzonspor are among Turkey’s most successful clubs, having won seven Super Lig titles.

Six of those triumphs came between 1976 and 1984, while their most recent league crown arrived in 2022, ending a 38-year wait.

Salah would arrive after an extraordinary nine-year spell at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the club’s greatest players.

Since joining from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian attacker helped the Reds secure two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two EFL Cups and the Community Shield.

Individually, Salah claimed the Premier League Golden Boot four times and was voted the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year on three occasions—in 2018, 2022 and 2025.

He finished his Liverpool career with an outstanding record of 257 goals and 120 assists in 442 appearances across all competitions.

On the international stage, Salah also featured for Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping the Pharaohs reach the round of 16 before they were eliminated 3-2 by eventual finalists Argentina.
