Mohamed Salah has said he wants to conclude his Liverpool career on a high note after finding the net in what could be his final Merseyside derby, as the Reds edged Everton 2-1 in a tense encounter.
The Egyptian forward once again proved decisive, opening the scoring in a match that ultimately ended in a hard-fought victory for Liverpool.
Despite what has been described as a difficult final season, Salah stepped up in a key moment to help secure all three points.
His goal marked his ninth in the Merseyside derby, moving him level with club legend Steven Gerrard as Liverpool’s joint all-time top scorer in the fixture, further strengthening his status in the rivalry ahead of his expected departure at the end of the season.
Speaking after the game, the forward outlined his hope of finishing his Anfield spell by helping the club reach their Champions League target.
“I hope I will just keep scoring and help the team to achieve the Champions League this season. Hopefully, I say farewell in the right way,” Salah told Sky Sports.
He also reflected on the importance of the win for the team’s confidence and stability during a difficult period.
“It feels great. The most important thing was to help the team to settle down and feel more confident.
“We knew before the game it was going to be tricky, difficult, and I’m glad we were able to win it.”
