Trabzonspor interim manager Huseyin Cimsir has dismissed concerns over Paul Onuachu’s fitness, saying the Super Eagles striker did not sustain a serious injury during the club’s 5-0 victory over Genclerbirligi on Sunday.
Onuachu was substituted in the 44th minute after picking up a chin injury following a physical challenge.
New signing Franculino Dju replaced the Nigerian forward.
However, Cimsir moved to calm fears over the 32-year-old’s condition, indicating that the injury was not expected to keep him out for long.
“I don’t think it’s a very important thing. There is no troubled situation,” Cimsir said, according to quotes relayed by HaberTS.
The incident came after Onuachu ended a five-game goal drought across all competitions in impressive fashion, scoring twice before being forced off.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring within the opening five minutes before Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to make it 2-0.
Onuachu struck again in the 22nd minute, while Ernest Muci and Franculino Dju completed the emphatic victory.
The result provided a much-needed boost for Trabzonspor, who are looking to recover from a slow start to the Turkish Super Lig campaign and mount a challenge for the title.
The Turkish Cup holders will hope Onuachu recovers in time for their next league game against Konyaspor next weekend.
His availability will also be important for Nigeria, with the Super Eagles scheduled to face Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches later this month.
Onuachu will be eager to build on his latest performance after his brace against Genclerbirligi brought an end to his five-match barren run this season.
