Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, will miss Trabzonspor’s UEFA Europa Conference League encounter against Scottish club Heart of Midlothian on Thursday due to injury.
Trabzonspor head coach, Thomas Reis confirmed the forward’s absence ahead of the match, which will take place at Papara Park as the Turkish side continue their European campaign.
Onuachu sustained the injury during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory over Finnish club KuPS last Thursday.
The Nigerian forward opened the scoring in the third minute but was forced off seven minutes later.
Providing an update on the striker’s condition, Reis said the Hearts fixture would come too soon for his return, although he could be available for the club’s next Turkish Super Lig match against Rizespor.
“Tomorrow will be a bit early for Mustafa, early for his return tomorrow. For Onuachu, we could say maybe the Rizespor match,” the coach told reporters.
Reis also disclosed that Trabzonspor operate separate player lists for their European and domestic league competitions.
He added that the team would finalise its starting lineup after the last training session ahead of the encounter.
The possible return against Rizespor would offer Trabzonspor a potential boost as they assess the striker’s recovery from the injury.
Onuachu’s absence is a setback for the Turkish side, with the Nigerian having scored early in the victory over KuPS before his injury cut short his involvement.
