Super Eagles’ Onuachu nominated for Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season

Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, has been nominated for the Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season award following his stunning acrobatic strike for Trabzonspor.

The Nigerian earned the nomination for his spectacular scissor-kick goal in Trabzonspor’s 4-2 win over Fatih Karagümrük in September 2025.

The effort had earlier been voted the league’s Goal of the Month for September.

Despite standing at 2.01 metres, Onuachu showcased impressive athleticism as he connected cleanly with the ball in mid-air to produce a memorable finish that quickly became one of the highlights of the season.

The 32-year-old had also claimed the Süper Lig Goal of the Month award in August thanks to a brilliant header scored against Samsunspor.

Onuachu enjoyed an outstanding debut season after completing a permanent move from Southampton last summer.

The powerful forward finished as the Turkish Süper Lig’s joint top scorer with 22 goals, sharing the Golden Boot with İstanbul Başakşehir striker Eldor Shomurodov.

His achievement made him only the sixth player in Trabzonspor’s history to end a campaign as the league’s leading scorer.

Across all competitions, the former KRC Genk star registered 26 goals and two assists in 43 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Trabzonspor’s successful season.

The Black Sea Storm capped the campaign in style by lifting the Turkish Cup for a record 10th time after a 2-1 victory over Konyaspor in the final.

Onuachu was the hero of the night, scoring both goals to secure the trophy for his side. Fellow Nigerians Chibuike Nwaiwu and Anthony Nwakaeme were also part of the Trabzonspor squad that celebrated the cup triumph.
