Esther Okoronkwo is expected to spend around six weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury during AFC Toronto’s league clash against Halifax.
The Super Falcons attacker sustained a meniscus injury in the encounter, ruling her out for the immediate future.
Milanovic reveals injury setback
Head coach Marco Milanovic expressed confidence that the team can cope without the forward during her recovery period.
“We do have an update. Esther suffered a bit of a meniscus damage to her knee and the initial prognosis is that she’ll be out for about six weeks,” Milanovic said.
“She’s obviously a key player for us, just like Sam was. When she first came in, she was initially out for the season.
“I love this group of players, I have a lot of confidence in them. So, any injury present any opportunity for someone else.
“We have a lot of depth up top and I’m very confident that those players will take the opportunity and make the most of it.”
Okoronkwo will now race against time to regain full fitness ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to kick off on July 25 in Morocco.
The 29-year-old impressed in the previous edition of the tournament, registering two goals and six assists.
