Court nullifies Uzodimma’s APC Imo West senatorial candidacy

The Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s emergence as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, as the authentic APC candidate for the election.

In a judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled that the evidence presented before the court showed that Uzodimma did not win the party’s senatorial primary held in the district on May 18.

The primary election was monitored by INEC, according to the report.

Justice Egwuatu held that Okorocha secured the highest number of votes cast during the exercise and was therefore entitled to the party’s nomination for the senatorial contest.

Consequently, the judge ordered INEC to recognise Okorocha and publish his name as the APC’s candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election.

The court also restrained Uzodimma from presenting himself as the APC candidate for the poll, effectively nullifying his emergence as the party’s flag bearer for the contest.
