Super Eagles’ Onuachu faces one-month injury layoff

Super Eagles’ striker, Paul Onuachu, is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury during a pre-season match.

The towering forward, who recently sealed a permanent move to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor from Southampton, suffered the injury in a preparatory fixture ahead of the new campaign.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Trabzonspor confirmed the extent of the damage, “Following the impact, significant edema was observed in the bones of Onuachu’s left ankle, along with a partial tear in the ligaments. Treatment has already commenced.”

The 31-year-old is expected to be out of action for approximately four weeks, potentially ruling him out of Trabzonspor’s early season clashes against Kocaelispor, Kasimpasa, Antalyaspor, and Samsunspor.

Onuachu impressed during his loan spell at the club in the 2023/24 season, netting 15 goals in just 21 league appearances, which led to the club securing his services permanently.

His absence will come as a blow to Trabzonspor’s attacking plans as they look to begin the season on a strong note.
