Paul Onuachu has said the Super Eagles arrived in Morocco for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations fully aware that only the trophy will be considered a success.
Nigeria return to action on Saturday night with a crucial Group C clash against table-toppers Tunisia.
The Super Eagles began their campaign with a 2-1 win over Tanzania, while Tunisia opened with a convincing 3-1 victory against Uganda.
Speaking to journalists after a Super Eagles training session, Onuachu stressed the team’s ambition while acknowledging the quality of their opponents.
“Nigeria is a big country and Tunisia is also a football nation, but I think we have the players and squad to take it to the next level.
“I think there are lots of strong teams and the game against Tunisia will not determine anything and even already coming here we have it at the back of our mind that we have to win the AFCON. But like I said earlier we have to take each game as it comes.”
The Trabzonspor striker is still searching for his first AFCON goal since making his tournament debut at the 2019 edition in Egypt. He featured as a substitute for Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s opening win over Tanzania.
Saturday’s encounter against Tunisia is expected to further test the Super Eagles’ title credentials as they push for early qualification to the knockout stages.
