Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked his friends, associates and supporters to avoid organising public celebrations or placing congratulatory advertisements to mark his 60th birthday on September 2, 2026.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
Shettima said he preferred a quiet celebration of the milestone, stressing that attention should remain on issues concerning the country rather than on his personal anniversary.
He said, “To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms.”
The Vice President urged those wishing to celebrate him to instead offer prayers for Nigeria and the success of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, his decision was informed by the need to keep public focus on national development and the challenges facing the country.
Shettima said, “Public attention should remain focused on the serious work of national development rather than on personal celebrations.”
He specifically requested prayers for the success of the administration’s economic policies, improved security, national unity and the wellbeing of Nigerians.
He said his 60th birthday should be viewed as an opportunity for gratitude and reflection, as well as a renewed commitment to serving the country.
The statement added, “For VP Shettima, the occasion should serve less as a celebration of a personal milestone and more as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to the service of the country.”
Shettima, who was born on September 2, 1966, will turn 60 next Wednesday.
