Police bust kidnap, robbery gangs, recover AK-47 rifle in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested members of two criminal syndicates involved in kidnapping and armed robbery, leading to the recovery of dangerous weapons and stolen vehicles.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Asaba.

He explained that the command received a distress call after a young man was kidnapped from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku.

“The kidnappers, after collecting a ransom of ₦2 million, still shot the victim in the leg for not bringing more money,” Edafe said.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police immediately dispatched the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor. The operatives stormed a forest in Ogwashi-Uku, where the victim was rescued with a gunshot wound.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Chukwuebuka Nka and Uche Okechukwu, in Anambra State. Police also recovered the victim’s white Toyota Venza SUV from them.

“The confessions of the suspects took our men to their hideout at Agidiase village, where another suspect, 18-year-old Somto Chukwuma, was arrested. We also recovered a Toyota Matrix and a network jammer device,” the police spokesperson added.

In a related operation, the command smashed a robbery gang operating in the Ekpan axis of the state. Acting on intelligence, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, arrested two suspects — 36-year-old Elvis Ebroghro and 34-year-old Abiola Adegore.

Edafe revealed that on September 11, a security guard identified as Abdullahi Mohammed caught the duo attempting to steal a vehicle battery. “When he challenged them, the suspects threatened to kill him if he reported the incident,” Edafe stated.

Following Ebroghro’s confession, another accomplice, Lucky Ebroghro, was apprehended. A follow-up search led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle hidden inside an isolated building in Ometan Community.

“The Delta State Police Command remains committed to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of residents. We urge members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid police operations,” the spokesperson concluded.
