The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Nicholas Nusa, over the alleged abduction and sexual abuse of five young girls in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was among several operations conducted by the command within the past week, during which 10 suspects were reportedly arrested for various violent crimes and one suspected kidnapper was killed.
The command also said its operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle and arrested a 32-year-old man, Mohammed Manfred Abdulramah, for allegedly impersonating a military personnel.
According to the police, Abdulramah was arrested on September 16, 2026, along the Auchi-Okene Expressway while travelling from Warri, Delta State, to Okene, Kogi State.
The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor.
The statement said Abdulramah was found wearing military camouflage clothing and was subsequently discovered not to be a member of the armed forces.
It read, “The suspect, who was travelling from Warri, Delta State, to Okene, was found dressed in military camouflage trousers and a camouflage vest. During police investigation, it was discovered that the suspect is not a member of the military and stole the uniform from a Navy officer based in Niger State.”
The police said preliminary investigations were still ongoing into the alleged impersonation.
On the alleged abuse of the five girls, the command said it received information on September 12 concerning their abduction from the Ibillo/Imoga axis of Akoko-Edo.
Nusa was subsequently arrested following police intervention, the command said.
The police alleged that preliminary investigation showed that the children had been sexually abused and that one of the victims became pregnant and later went into premature labour.
According to the statement, the victim lost the baby following surgery, while the five children have since been reunited with their families.
The command said the suspect would be prosecuted after the completion of investigations.
In another operation, police said operatives arrested a suspected criminal, Sunday Irabor, at a hotel near Oluku Market on September 8 following intelligence.
Three mobile phones, a Samsung tablet, a wristwatch and unspecified amounts of naira and foreign currency were reportedly recovered from him.
The police said investigations by the Violent Crime Response Unit indicated that Irabor was allegedly involved in several criminal activities in the state.
The command also disclosed that it recovered a Toyota Camry allegedly stolen from its owner.
According to the police, the vehicle, with registration number BEN 572 BT, was traced to Warri, Delta State, where the complainant’s driver, identified as Isiaka Suleiman, was arrested.
The police said the suspect and vehicle had been handed over to the Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police said the operations demonstrated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the protection of residents.
He said, “These operations underscore the Command’s sustained commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response and relentless pursuit of persons involved in kidnapping, violent crime, sexual offences and other criminal activities across the state.”
Daaor urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police to assist efforts to tackle crime.
He assured the public that the command would continue to deploy its resources towards protecting lives and property and ensuring that suspected offenders were brought to justice.
