The Delta State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of dealing in drugs and recovered 132 sachets of 100mg tramadol during a stop-and-search operation in Asaba.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Friday.
Edafe said the suspects, identified as 54-year-old Hillary Osondu and 54-year-old Abubakar Bello, were arrested on Thursday by officers attached to Operation Delta Shield.
According to him, the officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation along Nnebisi Road, Asaba, when they intercepted a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ZBL-549-XA.
He said a search of the vehicle uncovered the suspected controlled substance.
The police spokesperson said, “A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 132 sachets of 100mg Tramadol and the arrest of two suspects, Hillary Osondu, 54, and Abubakar Bello, 54.”
Edafe added that the suspects remained in police custody while investigators continued with the case.
In a separate operation, the command also recovered a vehicle reported stolen in Warri.
Edafe said the police received a report on Thursday concerning the theft of an ash-coloured 2003 Toyota Corolla parked at Awani Close, Ajamugha, Warri.
Following the report, detectives from the ‘A’ Division, Warri, launched an operation with the Dragon Patrol Team.
The vehicle was subsequently found along Winners Church Road, Ughelli, about two hours after the police received the report.
The police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest those allegedly responsible for the theft.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers involved in the operations for their swift response.
Oyeniyi urged personnel across the command to maintain proactive and intelligence-driven policing to prevent criminal activities.
He also appealed to residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to security agencies.
The commissioner assured residents that the command would continue to deploy its resources towards preventing and detecting crime across Delta State.
