Comoros have set up a second-round clash with African champions Nigeria after crushing Sudan 30-0 on aggregate in the opening round of the qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games.
The Coelacanths delivered a ruthless performance across both legs, hammering Sudan 17-0 in the first encounter before completing the demolition with a 13-0 victory in the return leg.
Despite their remarkable scoring form, Comoros are expected to face a far sterner test against the Super Falcons, Africa’s most decorated women’s national team.
Nigeria, who remain overwhelming favourites heading into the tie, are currently in strong form under head coach Justine Madugu.
The Super Falcons recently underlined their quality with a 3-0 victory over Senegal in an international friendly played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday night.
Madugu’s side had also beaten the Teranga Lionesses 2-1 in an earlier friendly meeting between both countries.
Nigeria will head into the Olympic qualifiers with confidence as they prepare to defend their title at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month.
The second-round qualifiers are scheduled to hold between October 5 and October 13, 2026.
Africa will produce two representatives for the women’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
