The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, has begun a manhunt for armed men who attacked students of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic (BUPoly), Hadejia.
The incident occurred on Thursday night when suspected criminals invaded a rented male off-campus hostel along the Hadejia–Malam-Madori road.
The assailants, reportedly wielding sharp local weapons, dispossessed students of mobile phones and other valuables, leaving residents in fear.
Confirming the development in a telephone interview on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, said the corps was intensifying efforts to bring the attackers to justice.
“We are actively pursuing leads and conducting investigations following the incident at the polytechnic students’ hostel,” Tijjani said.
He added that preliminary findings suggest the culprits are local criminals who exploited the late hours of the night to carry out the robbery.
When asked about arrests, Tijjani explained that no suspects had been apprehended yet but assured that progress was being made.
“Not yet for now, but we’re still gathering valuable intelligence from the community. The information we are receiving from residents is very helpful to our efforts,” he stated.
The spokesperson also stressed the importance of vigilance among students and residents.
“We urge the students and members of the community to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately,” Tijjani appealed.
According to him, the NSCDC has already stepped up security patrols and checkpoints around the institution to forestall further attacks.
He reassured that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
“Efforts are ongoing to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book swiftly and to restore peace of mind to the affected students and community,” he said.
The attack has stirred concerns over the safety of student hostels in Hadejia, with calls for stronger protective measures to secure off-campus accommodations.
