NSCDC Officer arrested over alleged shooting at Abuja market

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Onoja Samuel, for allegedly firing shots into the air during a confrontation with traders at a market in Kubwa, Abuja.

Samuel reportedly went to the market with a pistol after learning that some traders had allegedly assaulted his wife, leading to an argument that escalated into gunfire.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that police operatives attached to the Kubwa Police Division responded to a distress call and arrested the officer.

“On 25th October, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., a distress call was received at Kubwa Police Division reporting that an unidentified man, armed with a pistol, was firing sporadically into the air at a market in Kubwa, Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, called on personnel of other security agencies operating in the territory to exercise restraint and coordinate their activities with the police to prevent avoidable confrontations.
