NSCDC arrests suspect over alleged vandalism of Jigawa water station cable

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a 35-year-old man, Rayyanu Ibrahim, over the alleged vandalism and theft of an armoured cable at the Birnin Kudu Township Water Station in Jigawa State.

The suspect, who is from Kurima in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, was apprehended on Sunday, September 20, 2026, following a report of vandalism at the water facility.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse on Monday.

According to him, the incident was reported around 4am after suspected vandals allegedly broke into the facility and tampered with its electrical installations.

“Following the report, the Divisional Officer, Birnin Kudu Division, CSC A.S. Adam, immediately mobilised operatives and commenced investigation into the incident,” Tijjani said.

He explained that the breakthrough came after the operatives received information from the Birnin Kudu Peace and Security Group.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives succeeded in arresting the suspect at about 11am on the same day,” the spokesman stated.

Tijjani said Ibrahim was arrested in possession of an armoured cable believed to have been removed from the affected facility, adding that the cable had been recovered and kept as an exhibit.

The NSCDC spokesman added that investigators had expanded their probe to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly connected to the activities.

He said the suspect remained in custody while the investigation continued, noting that further action would be taken in line with the law.
