NSCDC arrests suspected telecom mast vandal in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Anambra State has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly vandalising a telecommunications mast and stealing equipment from the facility.

The suspect, identified as Nweke Wisdom from Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested on Thursday at Esther Obiakor Estate in Agu-Awka following a distress call about a suspected vandal at the mast.

The NSCDC State Command said the suspect was found with items allegedly removed from the telecommunications installation, including DC and armoured cables.

In a statement issued by the command’s Head of Media and Tactical Operations, Edwin Okadigbo, the NSCDC said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly specialised in vandalising telecommunications infrastructure and removing valuable equipment.

Okadigbo said the suspect had also made what the command described as “useful confessions” during the investigation.

He added that the suspect would be prosecuted after investigations were concluded.

The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and urged residents to report suspicious activities around telecommunications facilities and other essential infrastructure.

The command warned that anyone involved in vandalism would face legal consequences.
