NFF condemns racist abuse targeting Super Falcons’ Okoronkwo

The Nigeria Football Federation has denounced the racist abuse directed at Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo on social media following a theft incident at the team’s hotel in Morocco, stressing that racism and discrimination have no place in football or society.

The federation’s reaction follows reports of a theft at the Super Falcons’ camp in Morocco, where an individual allegedly stole cash belonging to the team.

According to the NFF, the suspect was arrested, the stolen money was recovered in full, and the offender was sentenced to six months in prison.

Despite those developments, Okoronkwo became the subject of racist comments and offensive emojis online.

The NFF described the attacks as baseless and condemned attempts to link the actions of one individual to the Nigerian forward or her identity.

In a statement, the football governing body reaffirmed its support for the Super Falcons striker, describing the online abuse as unacceptable.

“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) strongly condemns the unacceptable racist abuse directed at Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo on social media following recent incidents at the team’s hotel in Morocco.”

The federation noted that the racist attacks were unjustifiable, particularly because the theft case had already been resolved through due process.

“The racist abuse and emojis directed at our player make absolutely no sense, especially as the individual responsible for the theft was apprehended, made to return the stolen cash in full, and sentenced to six months in prison.”

Super Falcons focused on WAFCON opener

The NFF also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the players, insisting the squad remains united and undistracted ahead of its opening fixture.

“The safety, dignity, and well-being of our players remain our utmost priority. The entire team stands united, unbothered by distractions, and fully focused on tomorrow’s #WAFCON2026 opener against Malawi.”
