The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has cautioned officers of the Criminal Investigation Department against corruption, unlawful detention, and other professional misconduct, stressing the need for strict adherence to the rule of law in their duties.
Bakori gave the warning during a capacity-building lecture held at the Kano State Police Command headquarters, where he addressed personnel on professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct in investigations.
A statement issued by the Command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, on Thursday said the training was designed to strengthen discipline within the CID and improve public confidence in police operations.
The police commissioner reminded officers that their actions must always comply with legal procedures, warning that violations such as illegal arrests and abuse of detention powers would not be tolerated.
“Remain compliant with the rule of law and established investigative procedures in all cases. Exhibit conduct that enhances public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force,” Bakori said.
He also urged officers to avoid corrupt practices and unprofessional behaviour, including the misuse of social media, noting that such actions could damage the image of the police and erode public trust.
Bakori further assured personnel that the command remains committed to improving welfare, insurance coverage, and working conditions for officers, while calling for greater dedication in return.
He praised the CID for its role in criminal investigations and prosecution support, urging stronger collaboration across departments to enhance crime-fighting efforts in the state.
The session also included an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing officers to engage leadership on operational concerns and receive guidance.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police Shehu Idris, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and important for professional development and improved policing standards.
The training forms part of ongoing reforms by the Kano State Police Command aimed at promoting accountability, professionalism, and community-oriented policing in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.
