Kano gov threatens to sack appointees selling palliatives

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has threatened to dismiss political appointees and All Progressives Congress officials found selling empowerment items meant for distribution to beneficiaries in their communities.

Yusuf, represented by the state APC chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, gave the warning on Monday during the 12th empowerment programme organised by Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District.

The governor warned that anyone caught diverting or selling the items would lose their position, stressing that the initiative was designed to improve the welfare of beneficiaries.

“Whoever sold this intervention will go with his position; I will personally sack him. It is meant for your welfare, not selling, especially party leaders,” Yusuf warned.

The empowerment programme featured the distribution of 16 vehicles, 400 motorcycles and sewing machines to support party structures and boost economic activities across the senatorial district.

The vehicles were presented to APC local government chairmen, while the motorcycles went to party executives.

In the tailoring sector, 200 beneficiaries received empowerment packages comprising two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each.

The initiative is expected to strengthen their businesses and create opportunities for them to employ and train other people.

Yusuf also expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections, urging party members to remain committed to their political activities.

“We are hopeful that victory is ours come the 2027 general elections, God willing. Let’s continue to work assiduously,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Sumaila said the intervention was part of his efforts to fulfil his campaign commitments and improve the livelihoods of his constituents.

He acknowledged the economic and developmental difficulties facing the district but maintained that his commitment to delivering democratic dividends remained strong.

“I acknowledge the economic and developmental challenges facing the people over the past three years, but my commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to Kano South remains unwavering,” the senator said.

Sumaila listed security, road construction, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply among the areas where he had supported development initiatives.

He reaffirmed his commitment to helping protect lives and property, while commending local vigilante members, popularly known as Yan Sa-kai, for their efforts in securing Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.

The senator also said several roads had been constructed or rehabilitated, with bridges and drainage systems provided to improve transportation and commercial activities.

He added that farmers had benefited from agricultural machinery, farming implements, improved seeds and thousands of bags of fertiliser to support wet-season and dry-season farming.

On water supply, Sumaila said motorised, solar-powered and hand-pump boreholes had been provided to improve access to clean water in different communities.

He also reported that schools had been built or rehabilitated, learning materials supplied and more than 1,000 students supported in secondary and tertiary institutions.

He further disclosed that healthcare facilities across the district had been renovated and equipped with modern medical tools to improve access to healthcare services.

Sumaila assured constituents that he would continue to prioritise human capital development, economic empowerment and improved living standards across Kano South.
