Kano NDC gov candidate condemns killing of political commentator

The Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Aminu Gwarzo, has condemned the killing of social media critic and political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu.

Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked and killed inside his residence in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday.

Reacting to the incident in a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, Gwarzo described the killing as unacceptable and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.

He said, “The murder of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu is deeply disturbing and condemnable. No disagreement, criticism or political difference should ever justify taking a human life.”

He added, “The life of every citizen matters, regardless of political affiliation, opinion or social status. Those behind this terrible act must be found and brought to justice.”

The governorship candidate called on the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify the perpetrators.

He said, “I am calling on security agencies to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing, identify those responsible and ensure that they are brought to justice.”

The Kano State Police Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the incident.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred at about 11:30pm on Monday after the Vigilante Group Commander in Gaida reported that unknown hoodlums had broken into Dan Shagamu’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.

Gwarzo urged residents to remain calm and avoid reprisal attacks, advising them to provide relevant information to security authorities instead.

He also called for improved security across Kano State, stressing that the protection of lives and property remained a key responsibility of government.
