The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has arrested eight people over alleged homosexual acts in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.
The arrests followed a complaint by a 22-year-old resident of the Kanti area of Kazaure town, who reportedly accused nine individuals of engaging in homosexual acts with him on different occasions.
The Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dauda Hadejia, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, on Saturday.
Hadejia said the complainant alleged that he subsequently contracted HIV, which he attributed to the alleged encounters.
According to the PRO, the man approached the Hisbah Board seeking justice, claiming that he had been deceived and that the alleged conduct had negatively affected his life.
He said the complaint prompted Hisbah operatives to commence an investigation and begin efforts to locate the nine persons named by the complainant.
Hadejia stated, “Our men swung into action after receiving the complaint and so far eight suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect.”
He added that the eight arrested suspects had allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning to engaging in the acts with the complainant.
The Hisbah spokesman said the board had gathered information and evidence from its investigation, which would be presented before a court.
He further stated that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr Hussain Baban, urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s upbringing and monitor the people with whom they associate.
Hadejia quoted Baban as calling on members of the public to fear God and remain conscious of the consequences of their actions.
He also commended the Jigawa State Government for its support of the Hisbah Board in carrying out its responsibilities.
